As of April 1st 2020, all zero-emission vehicles registered from 1 April 2017 until 31 March 2025 are exempt from VED.  Plug-in hybrids qualify for a reduced flat annual rate of VED (£145 compared to £155 for petrol or diesel cars), and benefit from a significantly-reduced first year rate as a result of their lower CO2 figures.
